In reality, whatever that is, there isn't a 3 Hearts Ranch that occupies any sort of place except in my imagination. I firmly believe there will be that ranch one of these days, quite likely in New Mexico, or some other far flung place definitely of the Western variety.

I am a child of the West, even though I was born and mostly raised in a big city in Texas. I no longer thrive in a big city, if I ever did, and I am drawn to the magnificent landscapes of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, with a little bit of West Texas thrown in now and again. I am spending all available time trekking in the direction of the setting sun, likely listening to old songs from the 40's and 50's, with twangy guitars and the sound of hoofbeats in the rhythm. Or the sounds of Native American flutes along with the whispers of the wind and murmurs of water and the cries of hawks included in the recordings.

I have pursued a life as an artist since the mid-80's, and have found myself drawn, as I always was, back to contemplation of the earth and all manner of things through the lens of my camera. And along with what I manage to capture in those magic moments, I try to convey all of it with what words I can conjure to add to the image and the experience.

Here at 3 Hearts Ranch, I offer you a glimpse into the wonder and majesty of our natural world, a look at how it all falls down and apart, and more often than not, a chance to laugh now and then at the folly of it all. We are all here on a magical journey, though most of us are so caught up in survival that we deny ourselves our connection with the planet, and that magic that appears every day, if we but stop to accept it. I accept and welcome it with open arms, and have been granted miracles of sight, sound, experience, awe and wonder, along with a few tears and a lot of laughter. Come on in, and if you can't ride along with me, you can at least look at the pictures.

Oh — people often ask what the 3 Hearts mean. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but those three hearts have been with me for a long time, especially since I began my earnest work in art so many years ago. 3 is my favorite number, I've collected hearts for so long I forget when it started, and so it is. I think it has to do with Love, and Faith, and maybe Magic. And a lot of Joy and Gratitude. I know that's more than three, but I'm still working on it. I'll get back to you . . .
